Application Guidelines

General

  1. Please use the provided application template to prepare your research proposal. Proposals should be endorsed by the relevant departmental/school head indicating that the proposal is approved and duly registered at the University. The endorsement should be made by relevant authority who is mandated to sign an agreement with ARC in the event of an award. Please note that incomplete forms/applications will not be considered. 
  2. Responsibility is placed on the principal applicant to ensure that ethical approvals, where necessary, is obtained in line with the university's requirements. In a such a case, the application, must be accompanied by an ethical approval, or at least a detailed plan for obtaining one.
  3.  Please note that plagiarism is a serious offence and should not be entertained. Researchers shall be asked to submit their plagiarism check results as part of the report to ARC.
  4. Include a brief curriculum vitae (not more than 3 pages) of the Principal Applicant (PA) in your submission.
  5.  Submit your proposal using the link provided. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact Africa Resource Centre on research@africaresourcecentre.org.
  6. Only proposals from academic institutions will be considered. The  PA shall be domiciled in an Africa institution. The PA may seek collaborations with others in the southern and northern academic institutions.
  7. All research outputs including publications will be subject to wide dissemination.

Budget

Each research proposal must be accompanied by a detailed budget containing direct and indirect costs. A budget section has been provided in the research application template. Please use the template therein for budget. Please see below for guidance on eligible and non-eligible costs.

Eligible cost categories that ARC can cover:

  1. Travel/subsistence costs for project work and other direct project costs that may apply.
  2. University administrative costs, where applicable. You will need to show proof.
  3. Costs to attend one regional conference subject to completing the study.

Ineligible cost categories that ARC cannot cover include: 

  1. Ethical clearance costs.
  2. Capital and infrastructural costs.
  3. Per diems for meetings other than those specific to the research work as provided for in the eligible costs.
  4. Computers and software.
  5. Consulting costs from any academic or non-academic staff members.
  6. Supervisor’s costs. We presume that the university is already catering for these costs.
  7. Cost to publish research work from this support. The work can be published in open access journals that do not require a fee.

Note: The total budget for each proposal shall not exceed the amount of USD 15,000 including university administration fee. Any taxation liability is with the applicant.
