Research Application 2020

About ARC

ARC aims to improve the availability of medicines and health products in Africa by building more efficient and effective supply chains systems. ARC follows a government-led approach, and collaborates with commercial partners, donors, researchers and implementers to identify promising supply chain innovations that can be repurposed and deployed in the health sector.

Background

Several key questions related to supply chain for health are emerging in Africa. There is also growing demand across the world to engage local and regional institutions in Africa to address key public health supply chain (PHSC) questions/topics these questions/topics especially because most countries are preparing to implement Universal Health Coverage in line with WHO Call to Action of 2017. Having a strong supply chain research base will provide MOH access to well-researched arguments for change or improvement to systems. It also helps Ministries of Health (MOHs) to have policy relevant evidence to address supply chain improvements or reforms. ARC has developed a framework on how academic institutions in Africa can stimulate high quality policy relevant supply chain research.

ARC has launched a call for research proposals 2020-21. ARC is looking to support policy-relevant supply chain research studies where the principle investigator is domiciled in institutions based in Africa. Research outputs from this effort should be relevant to local MOHs and add to skilled workforce pipeline for both public and private sectors. ARC’s vision is use research as an enabler for strong sustainable supply chain systems for health commodities in Africa.
